I have been playing with disappearing pinwheels

Since viewing the Missouri Star Quilt Co videos on how to easily make the disappearing pinwheel I set myself the task this afternoon of seeing how many different layout effects I could achieve. I started with 2 ten inch squares of fabric and sewed them as Jenny has done in the video. If you wish to make smaller. Stitched together the blocks would measure 11 3/4 inches square before being stitched into a quilt.

I am sure that by stitching the pinwheel components (half square triangles units) individually using at least 3 colours more effects could be achieved.

One day when I have some spare time I will set down and calculate the size of triangles and log blocks required using various methods to achieve the elements needed to make these blocks.
I think that the most difference in appearance between the two blocks is Version 7 and Version 7 reversed. I am sure that there are more layout combinations that I have not discovered yet.

  3. This is just fabulous!! I love all the effects you achieved by just turning the squares around.
I also LOVED the pictures of the penguin. Since we do not have any here, it is such a treat to learn about them from someone who gets to see them up close and personal. I can't tell you how much I enjoy your blog and admire all or your work and effort. You are such a treasure :)

  4. Ok, my head's spinning! Who could have imagined all those possibilities from one fairly simply starting block. I love what you've done and am grateful that you've shared it with us.

  5. It was interesting to see all the variations you made from the one block. You are so creative. I would be interested to see what you come up with using more colors.
