Another mini pop up quilt show

The year is just flying by so quickly and there just not enough hours in the day. This is the first year that I have not done Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt. I still have a couple to quilt from the previous year.

Yesterday I delivered 13 more quilts to the local women's shelter. I focused on boys quilts because they always run a little short of those. 

I also made a little video of the pop up quilt show.

I was also very happy to talk to some ladies who attend classes at Stewarts Sewing Machine Centre here in Devonport and tell them about Bridie's Blossoms and the quilts I make for the women's shelter. I am very pleased and excited to report that we will work together one day a month next year on making quilts for the shelter. Thank you Andrea Broos for giving me the opportunity to do this .This photo I have "borrowed" from Andrea. Some of you may recognize that this quilt was stitched using the lovely 14th Anniversary set of deigns that were available from BFC Creations.

I went for another of my scheduled check ups two weeks ago and I am very pleased and thankful to report  that everything was all fine. Next one is scheduled in 4 months time. Whilst I was at the hospital I also delivered some more of my Bridie's Blossoms early miscarriage keepsake packages.

BFC Anniversary Designs and Possible new Quilt

I hope you have been collecting the new BFC Creations 14th Anniversary free set of designs that Suz has been so graciously providing to us. Make sure to collect each new one as it is released. This is my take on Design  3 using a red and black theme.

 I will not be doing a BOM with this set unless I get an indication of who would like to do this. I have just put another post on my Vicki's Fabric Creations FB page and need you to make a comment there if you would like to do one. I am also unable to send out bulk email so will have to set up a download folder.

Penguin guiding season down at Lillico Beach is well underway again. We had a very cold night on Saturday night and a very clear moon so took some Halloween inspired photos.

Time is flying by

I cannot believe how quickly this year is going. I post much more frequently on the Facebook page and you do not need to be a member of Facebook to view those posts. Save the link to your favourites and you can see what I am up to.

On October 13th my fiend Anna and I traveled to  Launceston to be interviewed on the radio about White Butterfly eventwhich we attended with Anna being the guest speaker. Anna is Bridie's Mum after whom my Bridie's Blossoms project is named.

We spent 10  days in Canberra at the end of September/early October and whilst there we visited Floriade which once again had some gorgeous floral displays.

We also delivered the first of my I Existed I Mattered keepsake packages to families who experience very early miscarriages. These packages will be given out in the emergency Departments and Pregnancy assessment clinics. By the end of this week I will have distributed 70 of these around our state of Tasmania. The packages have 10 items in them and include the little I Existed I Mattered Teddy bear so in total I have made  700 items in a three weeks.

An update and memory quilts I have made

I cannot believe how quickly this year is going. I was approached a few weeks ago to make some memory quilts for three grown up granddaughters using fabric from their grandmother's clothing. I do not normally do special requests but this one tugged at my heart strings. The fabrics were all polyester apart from one cotton print. The quilts have been completed and delivered.

Last week a story about me and my Bridie's Blossoms project was written in the Sunday Examiner. The response was very humbling indeed.

Our garden has been in spectacular bloom with the spring bulbs.

I have also completed some quilts for a community based fund raiser towards the end of the year.

Another busy month nearly over and my latest pop up quilt show

Today has been a wonderful sunny day heralding hopefully that spring is just around the corner. It was the perfect weather to have another mini pop up quilt show of the the latest 10 quilts I have completed for the local women's shelter. Once again I tried to make a variety for women and young children. They will be delivered during the coming week.

Last weekend we traveled to Hobart for my graduation from UTAS for my Diploma of Family History. It has been nearly 40 years since I last graduated from UTAS with my Bachelor of Science and Diploma of Education. What a day Friday was. We delivered Bridie's Blossoms packages and super nurse key rings to hospitals in Hobart .

Then it was off to graduation to receive my Diploma of Family History. A highlight was my very good friend Brenda Hodge giving a wonderful Welcome to Country address . Brenda and I have known each other for nearly 40 years and she did not tell me she was doing it.

I had one of my regular check ups with my oncologist at the beginning of the month . Thankfully that went well with the next scheduled one in December. We were out of bed very early that day as I also had an interview with ABC Northern Tasmania radio talking about Bridie's Blossoms. I was very humbled indeed by the reaction which it received.

The End of July Already!

Can't believe I haven't posted in so long. more frequent updates on the Facebook page though.I have not been sitting idly by and twiddling my thumbs.

Before I launch into my blog post. I have a big favour to ask. My niece has entered a photo of an echidna in a competition. The six photo with the most votes will go on display in the Museum coffee shop.

My latest creation is a quilt for a fellow cat lover. The designs I used for this were from  BFC Creations Cats Could Talk sets. I picked these designs because they sum up my cats completely.

The border print is very similar to an Escher type geometric design. This fabric has been in my stash for quite some time.
I also made a black/ white and grey quilt with a hint of grey as a special request from a friend of mine for a well deserving young lady. These design are the Black and White Florals set from Hatched in Africa.

The layout for both of these quilts is a variation on the Starburst pattern under the Free Pattern/Projects tab.

The Teddy Quilt is the Starburst pattern and will be a quilt for the women's shelter. These designs are the Teddy Bears Applique set from Hatched in Africa. These deigns stitched out so well. I will be making more quilts like this and just change the colour of the tie or just leave it off completely.

My 82 year old Mum has embroidered two lovely woollen bears. These are just gorgeous.

I have also lined and made the little quilts for another 7 little coffin boxes for the little angels in our Tasmanian hospitals.
